DAILY POSITIVE IMPACT – MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR 2ND FIFTY YEARS

Four excellent resources the content of which can help create a positive second fifty years.

1. THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF LESSENING STRESS

**The Brain Training Revolution by Paul Bendheim, M.D.

-Memory deficits and a brain that ages before its time are results of chronic stress.

-Individuals can lessen the stress that is a major demotivator and killer of individuals of all ages.

-There is stress that enhances memory and other body functions. Two examples are the enjoyable stress of modest physical exercise and healthy emotions.

Managing Stress in Your Life: A Quick-Start Guide

1.     Listen to your body. Frequent nervous-stomach sensations, recurrent tension headaches, muscle tension and soreness and chronic fatigue can all be symptoms of stress.

2.     Recognize if you are in a stressful situation or that your life has too much chronic stress. Admit you feel stressed beyond your comfort zone.

3.     Finally, and this is usually the most difficult step, adjust your attitude.

2: THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING A RESILIENT PERSONALITY

**The Resiliency Advantage: Master Change, Thrive Under Pressure, and Bounce Back from Setbacks, Al Siebert, PhD – https://resiliencycenter.com

Taking the free resilience quiz on Dr. Siebert’s site provides information on how resilient you are, and how to lessen your stress.

3. THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING A BRAIN & BODY HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

**The Brain Training Revolution, Paul Bendheim, MD.

Social Engagement is critical to health in your 2nd fifty years.

“7,000 Californians were monitored for 17 years; those lacking social connections were 2-3 times more likely to die prematurely” The Institute for Brain Potential

Consider doing the following:

–List the five people you know outside of your family who make you feel happy and energized.

–When was the last time you saw them in person or communicated with them in some way?

As you compare yourself with people you know, how socially engaged do you believe you are at this time in your life?

4. CREATING A PLAN IS CRITICAL

The best time management model I have found is Stephen Covey’s four quadrant model from **”The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Most healthy individuals pay attention to those actions that are in Covey’s Quadrant One: Important and Urgent (crisis and pressing problems) and more importantly in Quadrant Two: Important and Not Urgent (strategies and values).
