Positive Impact Strategies #4: Links to Best Places to Work

Work Hard - Have Fun

In the first article published in early November 2019 in this series designed to help individuals have tools to have a positive impact in our fractured world I took you through exercises designed to help you have a sense of your purpose and/or goals in life. That article was followed by one that provided you with links to three self-assessments that can help you identify your strengths. This 3rd article is designed to help you identify potential employers that might fit your purpose and the strengths you have to offer. I am not affiliated with any of the seven websites that follow.

This article will provide links that are helpful for those of you who have as your goal working for an employer that is perceived as a positive best in class organization. In a future article I will provide resources that identify sectors of the economy that are helping people by the nature of what they offer, like the education sector that help students.

Let’s conclude with the most powerful link to which you have access: your personal and professional network.

I encourage you to talk with people whose opinion you trust regarding organizations and leaders that promote positive impact and respect of others, through actions with their employees and in general. I would ask you to be open to considering suggestions from folks you trust when they happen to mention an industry or employer toward which you have a negative predisposition. Hear them out as they reply to your question, “I am looking at career and job options with organizations that have a positive impact on our world and treat their employees with respect; any ideas?”

I would also recommend that you be open to asking those whom you trust about whom they both trust and respect as leaders and individuals. I have coached and done leadership-development consulting in some tough companies over the years because a leader had contacted the consulting firm I was working with and had asked to speak to us. When we met, she or he explained that although their corporate culture was not a positive one, they wanted, as leaders, to do whatever they could to improve the work environment for the individuals for whom they were responsible. In many cases their span of control covered thousands of individuals.

They were courageous, often putting their jobs in jeopardy to support what they thought was right for their employees, clients, or the world in general. I know of individuals who approached and were hired by people like this, and their comment as we closed out our leadership development coaching relationship was, “I never in a million years would have thought I would be working at XXX. But I am energized to work with that leader and have a positive impact.”

I wish you the best as you explore the resources and ideas provided in this article. If you found this article of interest, I encourage you to send it on to those who are currently in a job search or are investigating employers that have a good reputation. Having helped many individuals with their job search I know that end of year is a major time when individuals start to look for new opportunities. I wish you the best as we move toward 2020.
