Positive Impact Strategies #4: Lessen Headline Stress Disorder Impact

An article by Nicole Spector on December 16, 2017 in www.nbcnews.com/better described a study by the American Psychological Association released in February 2017 that found that two-thirds of Americans are stressed out over the future of the country, and the constant consumption of negative news was pinned as a major contributor. Dr. Steven Stosny, a therapist coined the term “headline stress disorder” that describes this reality.

The point was made by Dr. Jana Scrivani in that same article that, “Subjecting ourselves to an endless barrage of tragedies and traumas can foster a real sense of being out of control.” The article suggested that trying to get good news is one way to lessen the negative impact of headline stress disorder.  I have been encouraged by the number of individuals with whom I have discussed this issue who have significantly changed the way they receive news. A major way to make that change is to spend time each day viewing or hearing positive news while also lessening the amount of negative news you consume.

What follows are four of the nine sites I have included in the Positive Resources for Positive Impact section on the home page of my website- www.havepositiveimpact.com. – that are designed to provide legitimate, positive news that you can incorporate into your day.

It is important for those who want to have positive impact and function successfully to be able to create the ability to stay positive, healthy, happy and resilient. One of the reasons I wrote the Amazon #1 International Bestseller Have a Positive Impact During Uncertain Times – https://www.amazon.com/dp/1732793808 – was because of the large number of very successful individuals who were having real difficulty dealing with all the negative news from around the world. I included a section in the chapter in that book titled Peak Performance that describes how to develop a resilient personality as a way of combatting the negative impact of headline stress disorder.

Multiple future articles in this series will provide additional ways of leading a positive, impactful and successful professional and personal life.
